HPC Ignite Impact

Two years ago, HPC Ignite was just a vision from HPC summer schools and coaching Thammasat teams. Thailand already had a national HPC (first listed #70 TOP500), yet few saw its everyday potential. I set out to democratize supercomputing skills and link them to real community impact.

With ThaiSC partners and an NRCT grant, we launched last April. We built an ecosystem from zero, brought training to 4 northern provinces, and aimed for 300 learners—we reached 373. The more challenging part was turning skills into working POCs: keeping students inspired, running extra clinics, and bridging resource gaps. Thanks to AWS Asia Pacific and ACM (USA)—with a special bridge from Prof. Fabrizio and the ACM Europe Council—we secured prizes and pathways.

At Lamphun Tech Week 2025, 11 teams showed how HPC meets local pain points:

  1. Dohn-Jai (Chiang Mai): hospitality turnover → NLP to preserve food know-how, cut re-training
  2. EVJourney (Lampang): EV range anxiety → charging-aware routes (co-sim + LLMs) + stories
  3. Khun Tan Intelligent Mind (Lampang): senior falls → AI risk prediction + emergency comms
  4. HPC Drug Development (Lampang): PM2.5 → HPC-accelerated herbal asthma spray
  5. ICS Nexus (Chiang Mai): flood response gaps → AI + GIS crisis communication
  6. HPC Local Voice (Chiang Mai): Thai–Hmong language barrier → bilingual HPC speech/LLM
  7. TwinBee (Pathum Thani → North): energy waste → building digital-twin co-simulation
  8. Injury Guard AI (Chiang Mai): elder-care missed injuries → computer-vision monitoring
  9. Livelihood for Elderly (Mae Hong Son): post-retirement income → HPC job-matching
  10. Ru-Pai / Disaster Aware (Lampang): multilingual alerts → wireless edge delivery
  11. Tud-Doo AI / Longan Pruning (Lamphun): farmer pruning skills → mobile AI assistant

In my talk, “Are we ready to lead in the AI Factory era?” I shared:

leadership = data + models + people; money alone can’t solve resource/responsibility limits; most of the next generation will self-learn AI—our job is to build the ecosystem so local pain points become globally relevant innovations.

Congratulations to all Awardees

  • HPC Drug Development — Thammasat University Lampang
  • HPC Local Voice — Chiang Mai Rajabhat University

(Plus complimentary ACM student memberships for all student finalists.)

Thank you, NRCT, Lamphun PAO, AWS, ACM, our juries/mentors (Lampang Chamber of Commerce, ThaiSC, Kasetsart, Thammasat), my co-researchers, and every student who built with heart.

HPC Ignite isn’t just about speed—it’s about people, empowerment, and innovation with a local heart and global relevance.
