"Bringing RDMA programming out of isolated competitions and into a repeatable national capacity-building pathway for Thai students, researchers, and supercomputing teams."

From 14–16 July 2026, Thammasat University in collaboration with the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT), ThaiSC (LANTA Supercomputer), NECTEC / NSTDA, and the HPC-AI Advisory Council hosted the Thai RDMA Programming Camp 2026 at NARIT in Mae Rim, Chiang Mai.

The three-day intensive boot camp brought together students, research engineers, and technical practitioners to gain hands-on experience in high-speed HPC networking, RDMA (Remote Direct Memory Access) programming, InfiniBand/RoCE, UCX/UCC frameworks, and GPUDirect RDMA.

Closing Thailand's RDMA Practice Gap

While Thailand has expanded its national supercomputing infrastructure with world-class machines like LANTA (#116 globally in June 2024), practical experience with low-level RDMA verbs and high-speed network profiling has historically been restricted to specialized competition teams.

This camp provided direct hands-on access to real cluster systems, enabling participants to move beyond theoretical concepts into writing custom communication patterns, running collective benchmarks, and optimizing memory registration models.

Camp Summary & Key Details

  • Dates: 14–16 July 2026 (3 Days, 09:00 – 18:00)
  • Venue: Andromeda Meeting Room, Planetarium & Exhibition Building, NARIT, Mae Rim, Chiang Mai
  • Instructors: Dr. Richard Graham, Mr. Qingchun Song, Mr. Pengzhi Zhu (HPC-AI Advisory Council), and Asst. Prof. Dr. Worawan Diaz Carballo (TU)
  • Hands-On Target: Collective benchmarks (NCCL, HPC-X) on ThaiSC LANTA, Verbs P2P & UCX client-server architecture, GPUDirect RDMA

Three-Day Agenda Overview

Day 1 (Foundations & RDMA Stack): MPI fundamentals, communication profiling, InfiniBand/RoCE architecture, user-level networking, and hands-on NCCL + HPC-X collective benchmarks on LANTA. Day 2 (Modern Libraries & Advanced Verbs): UCX & UCC architecture, extensibility APIs, RDMA memory registration patterns, and Verbs P2P client-server programming. Day 3 (Advanced Topics & Presentations): GPUDirect RDMA, peer-direct communication, GPU collective communication with NCCL, team mini-project presentations, and closing ceremony.
